Author Storytime: Who Visits Me From A to Z at the dentist

Tuesday, May 10 at 1 pm. Dental hygienist Joanne Roos wrote a picture book to introduce children to the dentist. She will read her book, with help from some puppet friends, and teach how to brush our teeth. For children ages 2 and up with a caregiver.  Limited space, tickets distributed a half hour before program. Books will be sold after the program.

Family Fun Day Readers’ Fair this Sunday!

On Sunday, April 10, the Trove will host a Readers' Fair for the whole family. Outside on the Library Plaza from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. will be Hudson Valley Llamas and a fire engine from the White Plains Fire Department. There will also be balloon animals, bubbles, a chalk drawing contest, a scavenger hunt, and outdoor games. Inside in the Trove will be facepainting, storytimes and crafts. At 4:00 p.m., Robert the Guitar Guy will perform after a special storytelling session. Funded by the White Plains Library Foundation.

Spring Valley Puppet Theater

Come see two stories by the Spring Valley Puppet Theater: The Lazy Fox and The Wolf In Sheep's Clothing on Sunday, December 27 at 2 p.m. Can a very lazy fox trick an armadillo? Every Hero Has a Story!

The Trove summer reading game begins Monday, June 29 and runs through August 14. Be a hero and READ! Each day you come in to report on books you have read, you will receive a prize. Family Fun Day – Trumble In The Trove!

On Sunday March 22, the White Plains Library Foundation will sponsor a family fun day from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. Vermont Puppetree will perform Swimmy at 2:00 pm, and comic juggler Will Shaw will entertain at 4:00 p.m. In between, enjoy gymnastics, face painting balloons, crafts, a book sale and bake sale. Music Conservatory of Westchester Family Concerts

Join the White Plains Public Library and the Music Conservatory of Westchester for two interactive musical adventures exploring wind, brass, and string instruments as well as the voice. The programs will feature musical performances from a variety of musical styles including classical, jazz and popular selections. In addition, children will have the opportunity to explore and touch the instruments in an instrumental “petting zoo.” Sundays, February 8 and 22 at 2 p.m.

Spring Valley Puppet Theater presents a Holiday Fantasy

On Sunday, December 28 at 2:00 p.m., there will be a puppet show for families with children ages 5 and older. Enchanted toys, fairy magic and a clever mouse are just some of the surprises in “A Holiday Fantasy,” an original puppet production by Michael Graham’s Spring Valley Puppet Theater. Tuesday Tucks Me In

Former Army Captain Luis Carlos Montalvan and his service dog, Tuesday, will visit with us to talk about how they work together to manage the challenges Captain Montalvan faces living with the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder. Copies of Captain Montalvan’s children’s book, “Tuesday Tucks Me In: The Loyal Bond Between a Soldier and His Service Dog,” will be available for purchase as well as his book for adults, “Until Tuesday”. Meet the Instruments! Family program presented by the Music Conservatory of Westchester

On three Sunday afternoons at 2 pm, February 2, 9 and 23, the Music Conservatory of Westchester will conduct an interactive workshop and presentation by the faculty and students. Each workshop will focus on a variety of instruments and styles of music. Bring the family to learn about the strings, woodwinds, brass, drums, guitar and voice. Don't forget the piano! Take Your Child To The Library Day is this Saturday, February 1st!

Multi-Sensory Storytime on Saturday, November 16 at 10:30 a.m.

Join staff from the Kiyoko Brown Lekotek Center for a storytime designed for all abilities and attention spans. It is recommended for children on the autism spectrum as well as other children with disabilities. Children from 3 to 6 years old with a caregiver are welcome to register for this program beginning on November 2 – please register in person in The Trove. The program will be repeated on December 21.

Kindergarten Here I Come!

School starts in White Plains on Monday, September 9. For children entering Kindergarten, it is an important time. Watch a film together with your child to help them get ready. Upbeat and authentic, this 18 minute, special video generates excitement about starting Kindergarten. There will be an all day continuous showing in The Cave alternating in both English and Spanish, from 12 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4, Thursday, September 5, and Friday September 6.

Act It Out! – Drama Workshop for Kids

Act It Out! starts Tuesday, January 15 at 4:30 p.m. There is still time to register! This three-session drama workshop includes theater games and script reading for children in grades 3-6. A group performance will be held at the end of the last session on January 29th at 5 p.m. Children get to practice their reading aloud during this reader's theater activity.
