Westchester Library Chess Tournament

The Library, in association with the Galleria at White Plains, will be hosting Westchester’s first Library Chess Tournament, for grades K-12. Participating libraries throughout Westchester will have the opportunity to assemble their finest chess players (6 team members per team) to compete in a single elimination bracket tournament.

Hosted at the Galleria, the tournament will be a biannual event, taking place on Saturday November 17, 2018 & Saturday May 11, 2019. First, second, and third placed teams will receive a trophy; first place team members will also receive $50 gift cards courtesy of the Galleria.

We currently host a Chess Club every Monday, from 7:00– 8:00 p.m., run by our children’s librarian Don Simmons Jr. In the beginning of November, the chess program will host an internal chess tournament, determining the Library’s top 6 players.

If you’re interested, but not a White Plains patron, or if you know someone from a neighboring community who is interested, tell them to check with their local library to see if they have their own chess club that will be competing. Currently Warner Public Library, Greenburgh Public Library, Yonkers Public Library-Crestwood Branch, Larchmont Public Library, and Ossining Public Library will be participating in the tournament, but more libraries are likely to join.
