Art Exhibition by Akimie Worrell.
No Longer Hidden: Being—without—Being Sickle Cell, is an exhibit comprised of mixed media art portraying the perils, small comforts, and life one faces when navigating the world with the horrific pain of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD).
The artist, Akimie Worrell grew up in Barbados, graduated with an M.S. from The College of New Rochelle. She was born with the inherited debilitating blood disorder SCD. She navigates life in between worlds of fashion, art and illness. She states that God, her family, and friends in her chosen world makes life more than worth living. No longer hidden invites the viewer to explore and uncover Sickle cell and to bring more awareness to its hidden torments. Proceeds from the sale of work will raise much needed funds for SCD research.
