Poetry Slam @ Grace Church on 9/7

While the Library undergoes renovations, our 1st Wednesday Poetry Slam and Open Mic is moving to Grace Church for September, October, and November! Just like our slams at the Library, please register between 6:30 and 7:00 PM for the Open Mic or the Slam. Slam poets should bring one original poem of up to 3 minutes. Registration closes promptly at 7, and the program starts shortly thereafter. September's guest poet is Kearah-Armonie (Kearmonie). Battle of the Books in the Edge

All tweens and teens entering grades 6-10 in September 2016 are invited to join The Edge team for the Battle of the Books competition! Teams from libraries throughout Westchester will compete by answering trivia questions based on five different books. Participants will read the pre-selected books over the summer, attend team meetings in the fall, and compete (as a team) in the Westchester Library System Battle of the Books tournament. Chocolate Tournament in The Trove

  The Trove's 2016 Chocolate Tournament kicks off Monday, August 22nd and runs through Friday, August 26th. It is a week-long series of events combining children's literature with games, relays, crafts and fun all about chocolate. It's a great way to celebrate the final days of summer vacation! Summer StoryWalk® in The Trove

The Statue of Liberty takes a vacation! Where does she go and will she return to New York City? Follow The Trove's Summer StoryWalk® to find out! The StoryWalk® is based on the book, Lady Liberty's Holiday written by Jen Arena and illustrated by Matt Hunt. International Film Festival

Our ever-popular International Film Festival returns starting Monday, July 11. Each film will be screened at 2 p.m. on Mondays through August 15. The festival has been going since 1987 (with a few breaks for construction and the like). Because we want our festival to be international in scope, we show motion pictures from a variety of countries and cultures, including those that reflect a film-making tradition that may be very different from our own. Sunday, June 5th Street Closures – The White Plains Criterium

Important notice… if you plan on driving to the Library on Sunday, June 5th, please be aware that you will not be able to approach the Library from Martine Avenue or Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard for much of that day due to several street closures for the White Plains Criterium Bicycle Race. Author Storytime: Who Visits Me From A to Z at the dentist

Tuesday, May 10 at 1 pm. Dental hygienist Joanne Roos wrote a picture book to introduce children to the dentist. She will read her book, with help from some puppet friends, and teach how to brush our teeth. For children ages 2 and up with a caregiver.  Limited space, tickets distributed a half hour before program. Books will be sold after the program.

Allstate Safe Driving Open House for New Drivers

Join us on Saturday, April 23 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM for our next open house for new drivers. There will be information in English and Espanol for new drivers as well as performances by the White Plains High School Song Writers Club. Other clubs from the high school will be here with information on some of the projects they have been doing this school year. This program was funded by a grant from the Allstate Foundation to the White Plains Library Foundation.

17th Annual Clarice Wilson Memorial Concert

Join us for the 17th annual Clarice Wilson Memorial Concert, presented by White Plains Library Foundation. On Sunday, April 17 at 2:00 p.m., violinist Alejandro Mendoza and pianist Adam Kent present an afternoon of sonatas for violin and piano by several of Clarice Wilson's most beloved composers, including Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johannes Brahms, and Cesar Franck. We welcome your donations to the Clarice Wilson Memorial Fund of the White Plains Library Foundation, in memory of Clarice Wilson, Music Specialist at the Library from 1974-1999. Mrs. Wilson supported gifted, young musicians at the start of their performance careers.

Family Fun Day Readers’ Fair this Sunday!

On Sunday, April 10, the Trove will host a Readers' Fair for the whole family. Outside on the Library Plaza from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. will be Hudson Valley Llamas and a fire engine from the White Plains Fire Department. There will also be balloon animals, bubbles, a chalk drawing contest, a scavenger hunt, and outdoor games. Inside in the Trove will be facepainting, storytimes and crafts. At 4:00 p.m., Robert the Guitar Guy will perform after a special storytelling session. Funded by the White Plains Library Foundation.

Fifth Annual Harlem Fine Arts Show Comes to White Plains

The Harlem Fine Arts Show will celebrate its 5th Annual Event, showcasing artists and authors on Tuesday, March 29 at the White Plains Library, 6 – 9 p.m. The event showcases African American artists and authors from the New York metropolitan area. This year’s special recognition honorees will include the acclaimed R&B and pop singing group Atlantic Starr and youth phenom Julius Rodriguez. Digital Photography Exhibit

Participants of the Library's eight-week digital photography class for seniors will display their work in the Library Gallery from Wednesday, March 16, through Wednesday, March 23, 2016. Professional photographer and arts educator Lori Adams presented the workshop in which students learned the fundamentals of composition and use of light and color to create portraits and still life images. A reception is planned for Tuesday, March 22nd from 2:00-4:00 p.m.  Refreshments will be served. Prepare for the Citizenship Interview

Saturday, March 12 at 12:00 p.m. Immigration officer Shyconia Burden-Noten of the US Citizenship and Immigration Services will demonstrate a US Citizenship mock interview to help applicants prepare for their own interview. All are invited to come and ask Ms. Burden questions related to the naturalization process, green cards, employment authorization, and the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). Attorneys and a paralegal will be available to provide consultations to individuals and answer questions. The Westchester Hispanic Coalition will be here to help translate this program.

Chamber Music of William Eckfeld

Please join us Sunday, February 21, at 2 p.m. for a free concert featuring the chamber music of William Eckfeld, composer and performer. The program includes works for strings, piano, clarinet, euphonium and tubas. Mr. Eckfeld, a White Plains resident, was the orchestra director at White Plains High School from 1987-2013. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music, he was a member of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra before beginning his career in music education.
