Teen Volunteers

The Trove is looking for responsible teen volunteers to help with programs during June, July and August. These include: Summer Reading Game, Reading Buddies, Toy Time, Family Nights, craft and science programs, family storytimes, games, and Lego Club. Black History StoryWalk® Features Steamboat School

Children at the White Plains Public Library are invited to take a walk along The Trove’s 2017 Black History StoryWalk®. This year’s walk is based on the book, Steamboat School: Inspired by a True Story, written by Deborah Hopkinson and illustrated by Ron Husband. In this story, the teacher, Reverend John Berry Meachum, and his students refused to accept discrimination based on skin color. Sensory-Friendly Show

On Sunday, November 13 at 2 :00 p.m. Autism Friendly Shows and Turtle Dance Music will present a Sensory-Friendly Music, Comedy and Bubble Show in the Trove’s Galaxy Hall at the White Plains Public Library. The event is for children ages 2 years and up with their families. The Art of Local History: Collage Night

Our first local history collage night was a success! Children’s Librarian Raquel Cavalcanti and I teamed up for a night of stories, crafting, and history. When we found extra local history books published by the White Plains Historical Society had damaged bindings, we asked if we could put them to use as collage materials. Chocolate Tournament in The Trove

  The Trove’s 2016 Chocolate Tournament kicks off Monday, August 22nd and runs through Friday, August 26th. It is a week-long series of events combining children’s literature with games, relays, crafts and fun all about chocolate. It’s a great way to celebrate the final days of summer vacation! Check Out a Launchpad!

The Trove announces its latest item for checkout – – The Playaway Launchpad! At a recent family program, families were able to try out and play with these new mobile devices. The Launchpads, purchased from Findaway, are small computer tablets that are pre-loaded with interactive learning apps and games for children. They are durable and come packaged in a bright orange case complete with charger. Tested by children in The Trove, the Launchpads have received great reviews. The StoryWalk® is based on the book, Lady Liberty’s Holiday written by Jen Arena and illustrated by Matt Hunt. Author Storytime: Who Visits Me From A to Z at the dentist

Tuesday, May 10 at 1 pm. Dental hygienist Joanne Roos wrote a picture book to introduce children to the dentist. She will read her book, with help from some puppet friends, and teach how to brush our teeth. For children ages 2 and up with a caregiver.  Limited space, tickets distributed a half hour before program. Books will be sold after the program.

Family Fun Day Readers’ Fair this Sunday!

On Sunday, April 10, the Trove will host a Readers’ Fair for the whole family. Outside on the Library Plaza from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. will be Hudson Valley Llamas and a fire engine from the White Plains Fire Department. There will also be balloon animals, bubbles, a chalk drawing contest, a scavenger hunt, and outdoor games. Inside in the Trove will be facepainting, storytimes and crafts. At 4:00 p.m., Robert the Guitar Guy will perform after a special storytelling session. Funded by the White Plains Library Foundation.

Children Walk with George Moses Horton

Children at White Plains Public Library are learning about George Moses Horton as they walk The Trove’s Black History StoryWalk® which is on display in the Library’s art gallery during the month of February through Sunday, March 13, 2016. The StoryWalk® is based on the book: Poet: The Remarkable Story of George Moses Horton, written and illustrated by Don Tate. The Trove’s Book Bunch

Books and pizza! What could be better?? Here at The TROVE our Book Bunch groups feast on this perfect pairing! Book Bunch is the TROVE’s book discussion program for 3rd and 4th graders and 5th and 6th graders. It offers students an opportunity to read something fun, new and challenging, and then talk about it with other kids over pizza at Uno Chicago Grill.
