News from the White Plains Public Library

You're Invited to The Premiere of
Shadow Lands

We are very pleased to host the premiere of Shadow Lands, a new feature film from Dennis Polanco, who has taught English at White Plains High School since 1999. The film will be shown on Thursday, November 8, at 6:30 p.m. in the Library’s second floor auditorium.

In Shadow Lands, a street-entrenched 12 year-old struggles to learn that there is more to life outside the streets, until a down-and-out uncle introduces music and running in the hopes that she can battle her own personal demons. First time director Polanco plays the role of Uncle David in this independent urban musical drama, starring Zaida Rio as the troubled young Natalie. The film is appropriate for teens and adults. Visit our website for more about Polanco and the making of Shadow Lands.

It's Out of Control!

We’ve received so many advance reader’s copies (thank you publishers!) to give away at the upcoming program What Should We Read Next?, that I’m on the verge of moving out of my office.

If you are a member of a book group, or just a passionate reader, you won't want to miss this program. Carol Fitzgerald–publishing insider extraordinaire—will discuss the new fall books (and the stories behind the books), recommend authors not to miss, and suggest titles that will work with your book group. Refreshments will be served. Sunday, November 4 at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Room. Register here.

Carol Fitzgerald is the President of The Book Report Network --- a group of internet sites about books and authors that have become the gathering places for a large and devoted community of booklovers since 1996. Programming is organized by demographic at Bookreporter.com, 20SomethingReads.com, Teenreads.com and Kidsreads.com and by special interest at ReadingGroupGuides.com.

With support from the White Plains Library Foundation.
