The Future is Female


Join us for a new “pop-up” book discussion group, The Future is Female, focused on timely and diverse memoirs by insightful and inspiring women. Led by Ellen O’Connell, the group will meet on the first Monday of every month, from 2-3:30 p.m., in the Community Room.

For the first meeting on February 4th, attendees should read My Beloved World by Sonia Sotomayor. Honesty and intimacy from the first Hispanic and third woman appointed to the Supreme Court.

This Week in White Plains


Celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the Crown Plaza on Monday, January 21 at 8:30 a.m. where the 26th Annual Thomas H. Slater Community Center Martin Luther King Jr. breakfast will be held. The annual fundraising breakfast in celebration of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be held at the Crown Plaza, located at 66 Hale Avenue in White Plains. Those who wish to attend can RSVP in advance by visiting the Slater Center, or walk-ins will be accepted at the door. The Honorable Andre Rainey, Mayor of the city of Peekskill will be the keynote speaker.

Jazz Jam with Art Bennett

 

Join Art Bennett in the Everyday Healthy Café on Wednesday, January 23 at 6:00 p.m. for a night of improvisational jazz. Bring your instrument and any tunes you want to work on, or just bring your ears to relax and listen. All musical skill levels are welcome. Art likes to run a workshop-style event where you get a chance to see how musicians who have never played before work together to create! An electric piano and a PA will be available.

Coding 101



Join Austin Olney in the Edge on Wednesday, January 23, at 12:00 p.m. for Tech Wednesday. This week, participants will learn about the world of computer programming and how to code. Core concepts will be dissected, and a popular language will be discussed. Registration is required; to register, please visit our online calendar, or call us at (914) 422-1480.

Book Club for Grades 4 & 5



Children in grades 4 & 5 can join Book Bunch, a Trove book group that will be held on Wednesday, February 27. Participants can read something new and challenging and talk about it with other kids over pizza. Pre-registration is required and begins Wednesday, January 23. Register in person in The Trove to receive a free copy of of the book! To find out more about Book Bunch and the title we will be reading, please visit our website.

Drop-In Do Gooders


Starting January 19, every other Saturday from 2:00–4:00 p.m., teens looking for opportunities for community service can take advantage of drop-in Do Gooders sessions. Teens who participate will work on Birthday cards for Meals on Wheels.

This program is made possible through support from the Allstate Foundation.
