English Classes are Back!
Now that our renovation is winding down, we are so glad to welcome back Westchester Community College’s English as a Second Language classes, beginning January 17. This is one of the best programs the Library offers, and in the past, as many as 200 students a semester have studied at classes that range from beginner to high beginner to low intermediate. It’s wonderful to have these classes in the Library, where students can also discover all the other resources available to them and their families—from pre-school programs to DVDs to citizenship classes.
Classes are offered in the mornings, late afternoons, and all day Saturday. Students pay only for materials: $59 for beginner classes and $40 for the other classes.
To attend, students must go to one of these registration sessions, held on the second floor of the Library:
- Thursday, January 4 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- Saturday, January 6 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- Monday, January 8 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- Monday, January 8 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- Thursday, January 11 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Sponsor Spotlight: Vino 100
We’re lucky to have Vino 100 of White Plains in the neighborhood. They’ve been the official wine
sponsor of the Foundation’s fall Galas for the past several years and we appreciate their generous support. If you visit the store at 171 Mamaroneck Ave., you’ll feel the relaxed environment right away. This is not an intimidating wine store with an overwhelming amount of choices.
What’s unique about Vino 100? “We offer a terrific selection of small production wines, as well as brand name wines” said owner and White Plains resident, Stu Levine. In addition, an entire wall of the store features bottles under $25 and every wine description includes a pairing suggestion. Shopping at Vino 100 is efficient and fun. What’s the biggest mistake people make when buying wine? “People can be afraid to try something new and they end up re-buying the same well-known brands” said Stu. “Come talk with me about what you like and I’ll suggest some new options that offer great value and taste.”
If you go, park in the lot on Waller Avenue and enter through the back door. You can also call ahead for curbside delivery on Mamaroneck Avenue. 914-949-8466.
Here are a few books from our collection to inspire you during the holiday season:
