Book Giveaway & Survey


To celebrate the end of the year and our eNewsletter subscribers, we're holding a giveaway to win seven print books and one canvas tote. To be entered into the giveaway, please fill out this form with your name, contact info, and your thoughts on this newsletter.

Holiday Break STEM Mini-Camps


At the end of the month the Edge will host 4 mini-camps for teens in grades 6 and up. Topics will focus on the area of renewable energy. Registration is required; to register, click on the date below that you wish to register for. This program is made possible by a partnership between the White Plains Library Foundation and Con Ed.

Day 1 – December 23 from 9:30-12:30:
The first renewable energy workshop will introduce students to some basic ideas and popular forms of renewable energy. Teens will design wind turbines and build a simple solar powered car.

Day 2 - December 26 from 9:30-12:30:
This workshop will introduce students to bio-fuels. Teens will make a fuel cell using natural materials, and learn about perpetual motion and energy.

Day - December 27 from 9:30-12:30:
Day 3 will show students how to create energy out of simple objects they already have.

Day 4 - December 30 from 9:30-12:30:
In the final workshop teens will get to build their own solar powered phone charger.

Nutrition Workshop


We all want to make healthy choices for our families and ourselves. Yet, being healthy is easier said than done. That’s where Just Say Yes (JSY) can help. JSY provides nutrition education for New Yorkers. Join Feeding Westchester's nutritionist Alyssa Advincula Friday, December 6th at 2:00 p.m. for this workshop and cooking demonstration.

Trove Time Caregiver Workshop


Caregivers of children ages 2-4 are welcome to attend our next Caregiver Workshop: An Emotionally Responsive Approach to Behavior Management on Tuesday, December 10th at 10:30 a.m. This is an interactive workshop where parents and caregivers will learn how to look at challenging behaviors from an emotional and developmental perspective. The workshop will provide parents with tools and techniques to observe children that are responsive to emotional and cognitive development. While caregivers hear the presentation and have time for questions, children ages 2-4 can play in the Story Trove with Librarians and Play Assistants from Trove Time.

Wellness: Stress Less!


Stress is a normal part of our lives. It can motivate and excite us—but too much stress can be physically and psychologically debilitating. Join Dr. Mimi Leibman tonight, December 4th at 7:00 p.m. for a discussion and practice of stress management techniques. Leibman was Director of the Staff Development Institute and Assistant Director of Professional Development for the Yonkers Public Schools.  She has a Ph.D. in psychology from The City University of New York. This is the last program in our Fall Wellness Series. Stay tuned for the Spring Series, which will begin in March.

Poetry Slam with WPHS Grad Jeff Kass



Our December Poetry Slam will be held tomorrow, Thursday, December 5th. Don't miss our Open Mic, SLAM competition, and feature performance from guest poet Jeff Kass! To take part in the open mic or slam, please register between 6:30 and 7:00 p.m. Slam poets should bring at least one original poem of up to 3 minutes. Registration closes promptly at 7:00 p.m., and the program starts shortly thereafter. Co-hosted by local poet and slam-master Eric ZORK Alan.
