One Book, One White Plains

This September and October, White Plains will come together as a community to read Celeste Ng’s Everything I Never Told You. A gripping page-turner and striking family portrait, the novel follows a family in 1970s Ohio as they try to understand the death of the oldest daughter, Lydia. It explores “alienation, achievement, race, gender, family, and identity” (

How to participate? If you have a book group, make Everything I Never Told You your selection for September or October. We are happy to provide copies and, if you wish, have a facilitator join your book group.

No book group? No problem. Gather a group of friends or work colleagues to read and discuss the book. Again, we will provide copies as well as a discussion leader, if you wish, to meet with your group.

Or join one of our pop-up discussion groups at the Library: Thursday, 9/12 at 12:00 p.m.; Tuesday, 9/17 at 6:00 p.m.; Wednesday, 9/25 at 2:00 p.m.; Saturday, September 28 at 2:00 p.m.; Tuesday, October 1 at 7:00 p.m.; Tuesday, October 15 at 2:00 p.m.; and Wednesday, 10/23 at 7:00 p.m. To register, visit our website or call us at 914-422-1480.

As of August 15, we’ll have plenty of eBook copies available through Libby, our eBook app. To arrange for print copies, book a facilitator, or if you have any questions, contact Brian Kenney, 914-422-1406 or

This program is made possible by support of the City of White Plains and the White Plains Library Foundation.

Photo of The Week

: Summer evening sky in the Highlands. This photo was taken by my 10 year old daughter on an evening walk before she was leaving for a month at sleepaway camp. We looked up and there was this beautiful sky at the corner of Byron Ave and South Lexington. Photo by Yael S.

We want your photos! In each issue of This Week on Martine we feature one patron submitted photo that was taken in White Plains. To submit your photography for a chance to be featured, visit our submission page, upload a photo, and fill out our form with a short description of the photo and your name.
