What: A Virtual Groundbreaking for The Hub, our new adult area on the first floor
When: Wednesday, September 7th from 10:30 – 11:00 a.m.
Where: the first floor of the Library, just outside The Edge
Like The Trove is for children, and The Edge is for teens, The Hub will provide a new environment to meet the needs of adult patrons, from 20-somethings to seniors…plus a café! The Hub is a public/private partnership of The City of White Plains, the State of New York, and the White Plains Library Foundation (including a gift of $1 million from an anonymous donor).
Please join us as we thank the dedicated elected officials and donors who helped make this exciting project possible. Refreshments will be served.
About The Hub
The Hub will provide updated furniture and lighting, create workspaces for reading and study, increase capacity for public computers, add new technology—like a 3-D printers and circulating iPads—create a Community Room for programs and events, and best of all, establish a café in the heart of White Plains. Through the generosity of leadership donors, The Hub will feature the Hope & John Furth Learning Commons, the George & Lucia Perkins Large Print Collection, the Marvin & Renee Kent Tutoring Alcove, and the Friends’ Bookstore.
Construction will begin in September and is expected to last a year. During renovations, the first floor will continue to provide circulation services, as well as access to The Edge and our fiction collections. Our most popular collections—new books, DVDs, and music—will move to the gallery and auditorium on the second floor, along with our librarian staff. Some of the non-fiction collection will be unavailable for part of the renovation; instead, we will request materials from other libraries in the Westchester Library System.
During the coming weeks, we will be moving collections and services. We thank you in advance for your patience.
