While the Library undergoes renovations, our 1st Wednesday Poetry Slam and Open Mic is moving to Grace Church for September, October, and November! Just like our slams at the Library, please register between 6:30 and 7:00 PM for the Open Mic or the Slam. Slam poets should bring one original poem of up to 3 minutes. Registration closes promptly at 7, and the program starts shortly thereafter.
September's guest poet is Kearah-Armonie (Kearmonie). Kearmonie is a Brooklyn based poet, spoken word artist, MC, Filmmaker, Blogger, and Writer. She recently completed her B.A. in Documentary Film Production at Brooklyn College, where she hosted and facilitated events as part of the school's poetry slam team. Having been performing spoken word since 2011 she is now a mentor and teaching artist, continuing to perform all over NYC. Her most recent documentary short, “BLK GRL POET” a spoken word driven chronicle of the Black Lives Matter protests in NYC, has been featured in the Women of African Descent Film Festival and The 34th Annual Brooklyn College Film Festival.
Grace Church is located at 33 Church Street, right at the corner with Main Street. Local poet and slam-master Eric ZORK Alan is our co-host. All are welcome! Questions? Contact program librarian Ben Himmelfarb by phone (422-6980) or e-mail (bhimmelfarb@whiteplainslibrary.org). Poetry Slam is a project of the White Plains Library Foundation.
