This Month in the Edge: January 2023

This month, we have several activities going on in the Edge. Drop-in activities will be available during Edge hours all through the month. Scheduled programs take place at specific times, linked below. Please join us for one or all!

Drop-in Activities:

Snowflake Window Clings
Make a few snowflake window clings; bring them home, or leave them with us to decorate the Edge windows for the winter.

Year Compass
We love the Year Compass, a booklet designed to help you reflect on 2022 and plan for 2023. We've printed out several copies; come in and pick one up, or sit and write. You can also download a digital copy here.

Learn about a new technology topic each session. January 3: Coding. January 17: Game Design. January 31: Artificial Intelligence.

Poetry Slam and Open Mic
Wednesday January 4 at 7:00 p.m.

Join Zork and Kristen for our monthly Poetry Slam! If you plan to perform and are performing for the first time, please email Kristen with a short bio at kthornton@whiteplainslibrary.org.

Igloo Virtual Tours
Optimum Technology Room
All Ages
Go on a virtual tour of a distant place using the library's newly installed panoramic video room, installed by Igloo Vision and funded by the Library Foundation and Optimum. Views from 360° content and more will be provided in this fun series of programs. Each session will focus on a particular world location.

Do Gooders: Card Making

An opportunity for teens in grades 7-12 to earn community service hours. We'll have supplies for teens to make greeting cards. The finished cards will be donated to Meals on Wheels.

Minecraft for Youth
Mondays January 9 and 23 at 4:00 p.m.

Build your design skills in the Minecraft world with library friends and our library tech specialist, Austin.

Wanderhome
Wednesday January 11 at 4:00 p.m.

Your Voice Heard

Learn how industry quality radio, podcasts, and longer form journalism are made with Marc Sophos from Outcasting! Outcasting is a series of public radio programs by LGBTQ+ youth and their allies for the general public with a national reach of 200 radio stations.

Help shape the future of the Edge; plan and organize Edge programming, among another initiatives. Teens may earn community service for meaningful participation.

Common Ground

Common Ground is an in person conversation collaborated by White Plains League of Women Voters, YWCA and the Library. The topic discussed will be “Should the government regulate social media?” Teens may earn community service for meaningful participation.

Book Bunch
