STEAM-Powered Summer
A series of themed activities each week for teens in grades 7-12, in the Media Lab from 1:00-2:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. For weeks marked Registration Required, teens must sign up through our online calendar and must be able to attend every session that week. Weeks marked Drop In are on a first-come, first-served basis; attend one day or all. This summer series is supported by ConEdison and the White Plains Library Foundation.
July 31-August 3 Zines — Drop In
Unleash your creativity and make your own Zine, a DIY magazine that reflects your unique interests and personality. Create your own story and share information about something that is important to you!
August 7-10 3D Printing — Drop In
A week of 3D design challenges.
August 7: Design jewelry or a keychain.
August 8: Design a dream house or recreate a famous landmark.
August 9: Design a vehicle… real or fantasy/sci-fi!
August 10: Replica Project: recreate a prop from a book, movie, videogame, comic, etc.
August 14-17 Studio Art — Drop In
This week we'll examine the work of a variety of artists, and try out their favorite mediums.
August 14: Drawing. Explore the idea of mark-making with different drawing materials.
August 15: Painting. Work with the concept of color, and how colors relate to one another.
August 16: Sculpture. Work with clay to determine the concepts of space, and add texture.
August 17: Mixed Media. Combine various mediums into a thoughtful and elaborate project.
Daily Drop In
Each weekday, we'll have an activity going on in the afternoon. No registration required; events are for teens in grades 7-12.
Movie Monday: Join us for a movie and popcorn.
Winning Wednesday: Join us for a fun afternoon activity: video games, board games, crochet, and creative writing are some of the possibilities.
Thoughtful Thursday: Chill out with a meditative art project.
Fun Friday: Join us for a fun afternoon activity: video games, board games, crochet, and creative writing are some of the possibilities.
After Hours in The Edge
We're keeping the Library open late for White Plains teens in grades 9-12! Join us for the Teen After Hours series on a Friday evening each month for some fun, food, and friends. Read more about this series here.
