This Month in the Edge: November 2023

This fall we've planned a bunch of different fun things for grades 7-12. From our College and Career Club to the monthly After Hours for grades 9-12, we have a range of options available. Stop by anytime during Edge hours to say hello and find out more about the Edge.

Edge Fall Hours:

Monday – Thursday: 3:00-8:00 p.m.
Friday: 3:00-8:00 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 1:00-5:00 p.m.

Drop-in Activities:

No registration is required for these ongoing programs for grades 7-12.

Movie Monday
Join us for a movie on Monday at 4:00 pm.
November 6, 13, and 20

Winning Wednesday
Play some board games with friends from 5:30-8:00 p.m. On Wednesday 11/22, the Library closes at 6:00 p.m.; Winning Wednesday will begin at 4:00 p.m. that day.

Thoughtful Thursday
Take time for a meditative art project, selected Thursdays at 4:00 p.m.

Fun Friday
Join us for a fun afternoon activity at 4:00 p.m.: video games, board games, crochet, and creative writing are some of the possibilities. (Please note the Library will be closed on Friday, November 10.)

Do Gooders
Need to earn some community service credit? Drop in and make some cards for Meals on Wheels. Every Saturday from 2:00-4:00 p.m.

Evening Programs:

We're expanding our evening options this fall.

Winning Wednesday
Play some board games and enjoy snacks with friends, every Wednesday (except 11/22) from 5:30-8:00 p.m.

Edge Advisory Board
Thursdays November 2 and 30 at 6:00 p.m.

Teens
Teens in grades 7 – 12 are invited to join an advisory board to help shape the future of the Edge. The board will help plan and organize Edge programming, among other initiatives. Teens may earn community service for meaningful participation.

White Plains Teens After Hours
Friday November 3 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.

We're keeping the library open late ONLY for White Plains teens in grades 9-12. This month's event features an open mic with the WPHS Songwriters' Club, PS5 and Nintendo Switch gaming, arts and crafts, board games, and more.

Craft Night for Teens

Join us for snacks and an art project. This month we'll be making holiday cards, and we'll have gift wrap available for teens to wrap their holiday presents.

Teen Resume Workshop
Wednesday November 1 at 5:00 p.m.

A free workshop for teens. Are you a TEEN looking for your first job? Or looking for new employment opportunities? Join us to receive tips on how to create a new resume or spruce up your outdated one. Also, learn skills and strategies that will help you land a part-time or summer job. Program will be hosted in collaboration with the WLS Career Coaching Services.

Poetry Slam and Open Mic

Harriet Shenkman, Poet-in-Residence of the JCC of Mid-Westchester, with Jennifer Franklin and Suzanne Cleary, two other accomplished poets will read their work and answer questions about the creative process and how they became poets.

We'll help you look for college programs, financial aid, scholarships, student employment, vocational programs, and much more. Whether you’re in middle or high school, we’ve got steps that you can take to start preparing for the future. If you’ve got questions, we’ll get you the answers!

Financial Literacy for You and Your Dream
