January 11 – Film Discussion – Marty (1955 – 1hr. 30min.)

Ernest Borgnine won a Best Actor Oscar for his role as an aging Italian-American butcher — still
living with his overbearing mother — who gives up on love until he meets an equally lonely, shy
schoolteacher, played by Betsy Blair. This poignant and timeless tale, filmed on location
throughout NYC, was produced by Harold Hecht and Burt Lancaster, the winner of four Oscars
including Best Picture, Best Director – Delbert Mann, and Best Screenplay – Paddy Chayefsky.
The film also won the first Palme d’Or Prize presented at the Cannes Film Festival in 1955
