STEAM-Powered Summer
A series of themed activities each week for teens. Each week has a different theme, and slightly different scheduling, so make sure to check the details below. For weeks marked Registration Required, teens must sign up through our online calendar and must be able to attend every session that week. Weeks marked Drop In are on a first-come, first-served basis; attend one day or all. Events are for teens in grades 7-12, unless listed otherwise in the description. This summer series is supported by ConEdison and the White Plains Library Foundation.
Get Into Your Picture
June 27-29
11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
***Registration Required***
Participants in this workshop will receive a free photographic portrait produced collaboratively with artist Francois Deschamps and printed on the spot at the White Plains Library. In a two-hour guided session, a small group of 4-5 participants will produce individual drawings and photographs to be combined on the computer into final images. Artist and participant will work together on a computer to assemble and print the final image. There is no fee but the participant must sign up for a two-hour session and must show up on time. They must also have written permission from a guardian to have the photograph made and be exhibited at the White Plains library. Participants are strongly encouraged to come to the workshop with specific ideas, images, or objects they want to use in the final image. Join cartoonist Rick Stromoski for a cartooning lesson. Rick will be presenting virtually, but we'll gather in the Media Lab to learn from him together. If you attend in person, supplies will be provided. Or, you can join from home if you prefer; please provide an email address when registering so we can send you the Zoom link.

Bead Earring Workshop

Learn to make jewelry for a good cause. Instructor Joan Lloyd will teach us how to make beautiful dangly earrings. For every pair you make to donate to a women's shelter, you'll make a pair to keep. For teens in grades 7-12 on a first-come, first-served basis.
A Pretty Cool Everyday Journal

A. I. Camp for Teens

Youth from grades 6-12 will have the chance to learn about the ins and outs of A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) through a variety of fun activities and content, in both the new Igloo VR room and Edge Media Lab. Led by Digital Media Specialist Austin Olney.
WJCS Center Lane Pride Camp

WJCS Center Lane's Pride Camp is an in-person opportunity for high school aged LGBTQ+ youth to learn about and discuss topics impacting the community, and connect with other youth in a supportive environment! An exciting week filled with activities, games, presentations, special guests, and more! For LGBTQ+ youth and allies, rising freshman – graduating seniors. Registration required; link below.

We'll examine the work of a variety of artists, and try out their favorite mediums.
Daily Drop In
Each weekday, we'll have an activity going on in the afternoon. No registration required; events are for teens in grades 7-12.
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: Our Nintendo Switch and PS5 will be available to play during Edge hours.
Tech Tuesday: Technology-related fun on select Tuesdays (check calendar for details); 4:30 p.m. in the Edge Media Lab.
Thoughtful Thursday: We'll have a meditative art activity available during Edge hours.
Sunday Teen Movies: Join us for a movie and popcorn.
