Do you keep a reading log? Maybe you jot down titles of novels you’ve enjoyed so you can recommend them to friends. Or maybe you refer to a list of cookbooks you've perused so you can re-find an interesting recipe. Or maybe it gives you a sense of accomplishment to see all the books you've read and revisit the thoughts that led you to them.
It may interest you to know that our catalog now gives you the option to record your reading history! This is an optional service that you will need to opt into, as the default setting is for the catalog to not save the reading history. To change this, you would visit our catalog at https://catalog.whiteplainslibrary.org and log into your account by typing in your library card number and your pin (the last 4 digits of the phone number we have on file for you, unless you have changed it to something else). Then at the bottom of the list of subjects on the left-hand side, click on “Reading History.” A placard will appear stating that Library staff will not have access to your reading history. But if law enforcement requests it through a subpoena, the Library will have to provide it. It also explains that if at any time you want to stop recording your reading history, you can and that doing so will delete the entire previous list. If this is acceptable to you, click “Start Recording My Reading History.”
Visit us at the Hub Desk if you need any help or if you'd like to share the merits of different reading logs or anything else that enhances your reading experience. We're always interested to hear your thoughts on these subjects.
