What’s Next in the Edge: March 2025

Read on to find out about the activities we've planned for grades 7-12 this spring. As usual, we have a lot going on. Stop by anytime during Edge hours to say hello and find out more about the Edge.

Edge Hours

Monday – Thursday: 3:00-8:00 p.m.
Friday: 3:00-6:00 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 1:00-5:00 p.m.

Drop-in Activities

No registration is required for these ongoing programs for grades 7-12.

Video Game Time
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during Edge hours.

Tech Tuesday
Youth in grades 4-12 will learn about new technology topics on select Tuesdays at 4:30 p.m.

Creative Time
Take time for a meditative art project on Thursdays at 4:00 p.m.

Quiet Study Night
Thursdays from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Bring a snack, a friend, and your school work to settle in and be productive.

Safe Relationships
Monday March 3 at 4:00 p.m.

Teens
Join us to discuss safety within romantic relationships. This session will cover sexually transmitted infections among other topics. For teens in grades 7-12. No registration required.

Poetry Slam and Open Mic
Wednesday March 5 at 7:00 p.m.

After Hours
Friday March 7 at 6:00 p.m.

The Library offers a fun, unprogrammed time ONLY for White Plains teens in grades 9-12. Games, crafts, coloring, food, hanging out, video games, karaoke, virtual experiences, dancing, are all just some of the things that could be going on! Teens must be in grades 9-12 and able to show White Plains residence.

Grand Central Terminal
Sunday March 9 at 2:00 p.m.
The Igloo
All ages
Learn about the fascinating history of Grand Central Terminal, one of the most famous transportation hubs in the world. Informative presentation held in the library's panoramic Igloo content room (near Trove entrance on 2nd floor), funded by the Library Foundation and Optimum. Presented by Digital Media Specialist Austin Olney.

Mario Day Party
Monday March 10 at 4:00 p.m.

Join us to celebrate Mario Day on March 10 (Mar10) with plenty of Mario-related video games, movie, and snacks for teens.

Successfully Navigating College Admissions
Tuesday March 11 at 7:00 p.m.

Stand Out For College will discuss current college admissions trends, admissions strategies, the changing test-optional environment, the importance of researching and visiting colleges to find schools that can be a good fit for your child, a timeline and other action steps that can be taken to make this fall productive and help reduce the stress around the college admissions process. The presentation will be led by Ron Feuchs and Jackie Tepper, partners at Stand Out For College, LLC.

Do Gooders

Teens in grades 7-12 can earn community service hours by attending Do Gooders meetings. We work on projects to benefit the library or other local organizations and plan future After Hours events. No registration is required.

Young Visionaries
Wednesday March 12 at 5:00 p.m.

Young Visionaries is a calming space where teens can unwind through watercolor, collage, and expressive art. Let your creativity flow while discovering your unique voice and building inner strength. Our sessions blend mindfulness with artistic exploration – because taking care of ourselves helps us show up better for our community. No art experience needed.

Beginner Stitching
Monday March 17 at 6:30 p.m.
Museum Gallery
Teens, Adults
Learn the basics of knitting and crochet with Kat and Cecelia! We will teach beginner stitches and provide yarn and the needles/hook needed to make a practice square. Experienced crafters are welcome to attend any session; registration is required for beginners. Space for learners is limited in order to provide a good experience for everyone. A meeting of the Edge Advisory Board, a group of teens who love the library and work to plan activities for teens in the Edge. Teens may earn community service credit for meaningful participation.

Youth Leadership Institute

Ages 10-13
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ® Pi Iota Omega Chapter is seeking students ages 10-13 (all genders) to participate in the Alpha Kappa Alpha Youth Leadership Institute (YLI). YLI is a youth-led and highly interactive leadership development program designed to empower and engage youth. Leadership skills will be developed by the “doing” approach via interactive workshops, youth led meetings, committee meetings, committee leadership, and decision making. Registration is required.  Please register above left for the entire series of programs.

A free virtual workshop conducted by a professional Career Coach that will help you land a part-time or summer job. Topics covered include: • What type of jobs are available for teens • Where to look for jobs • How to answer questions on the job application • What to include in a resume • What to share and ask during the interview

Financial Literacy for Teens
