White Plains Public Library is pleased to announce expanded hours starting July 1. The new hours represent a 20% increase over the Library’s current open hours.
“We’re grateful to the Mayor and members of the Common Council for their continued support of the Library,” said Library Director Brian Kenney. “Despite only a modest change in our fiscal year 2012-2013 budget we have made it our priority to increase the time the Library is open to the public. Via efficiencies gained through our partnership with Westchester Library System, and through the utilization of new technology, as well as an internal reorganization, we are pleased to be able to expand our hours. I’m especially thankful to the library staff for their support of this initiative.”
Mayor Thomas Roach said, “Libraries are an important community resource and in White Plains, our Library has fulfilled that role by providing outstanding offerings to children, teens and adults. I am pleased that we will be able to expand the number of hours that the Library is open to the public through this budget and provide this benefit to our community at large.”
Effective July 1, Library hours will be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 10 am – 9 pm, Thursday, Friday 10 am – 6 pm, and Saturday, Sunday 1 pm – 5 pm. As of September 1, Saturday hours will increase to 10 am – 5 pm.
”The extra hours will provide more time for community partners to utilize the Library and its meeting rooms,” said Kenney. “We know that Friday and Saturday mornings are important for families and we’re thrilled to resume being open those mornings.”

as a retired library media specialist for the White Plains Public Schools, I applaud this decision; libraries are changing with the needs of our community, and this can only enhance our public image; congratulations on a superior library !!

What wonderful news. The library should be open as much as possible and this library, the White Plains Public Library, is the best library I ever belonged to. And I have lived in several areas of NY. The staff is always eager to help, the children’s area, the Trove, is enjoyed weekly by my 4 year old granddaughter and I reserve mysteries on a continuous basis. keep up the good work.
What better way is there to spend out tax dollars!!
