Board Book Bonanza: Celebrating Black History Month

“Board Book Bonanza” will highlight the wealth of excellent board books being published for babies and young preschoolers for parents and caregivers to share with their little-ones. It's never too early to have fun and learn about science, art, history and so much more!

The following is a list of positive and loving board books for babies available in the Trove to celebrate Black History Month:

Be Boy Buzz by Bell Hooks & Christopher Raschka
“Brown-skinned boys with long, curving arms and curly hair lope and leap across sienna-colored pages; bright squiggles of scribbled design add a geometric counterpoint to the flowing lines of kids with big, open hearts and sweet minds, ready for the world. A wonderful collaboration, this book is as exuberant as the boys it describes.” – School Library Journal

Baby Says by John Steptoe
“Steptoe ingeniously uses only seven distinct words to tell his relatable sibling-dynamics tale, with the story’s significant drama, emotion, and humor carried by the riveting pictures (as is ideal for babies and toddlers). Welcome back, Baby! – Horn Book Guide

I Love My Hair by Natasha Anastasia Tarpley & Earl B. Lewis
“In this gracefully told story, a young African-American heroine celebrates her lovely head of hair as part of her heritage.” – Publishers Weekly

I Love Me by Sally Morgan & Ambelin Kwaymullina
“Two smiling brown-skinned children, sometimes joined by a black-and-white spotted dog, are haloed in variously colored auras that emphasize their singularity and seem to radiate self-love…You just gotta “love, love, love” this joy-filled book.” – Kirkus Reviews
