Summer Programs and Events for Kids, Teens, and Families

While we might not be able to hold them in the Library, that doesn’t mean we’re not offering a lot of great programs in July and August! For full details on each program, and to get Zoom links, visit our Online Calendar.

Of course, we also have our annual Summer Reading Game to take part in, and tons of fantastic reading recommendations in our Reading Lists!

Family Fun Fridays – Fridays, July 10-August 14, 11:00 a.m. A great performance for children and families every Friday. More information here.

Illusionist Leon Etienne – Wednesday, July 22, 6:30 p.m. World-class magician Leon Etienne performs. More information on this amazing program here.

STEAM Camps – From June 29 through August 6 we are offering six weeks of morning virtual Maker Camps for grades 7-12 and afternoon virtual STEAM Camps for grades 4-6. Space is limited and registration is required for these free camps which are made possible through support from Verisk Analytics.

“STEM Superheroes” Camp – August 3-6, 1-2:30 p.m. Youth in grades 4-6 will learn about the historic inventors and innovators who used science, technology, engineering and math to solve real world problems to become real-life STEM SUPERHEROES! Each day, we will go back in time and discover an innovator from history such as Alan Turing, Ada Lovelace, Jacques Cousteau, Bjarke Ingels the Wright Brothers and more. Through the concepts learned from historic figures and the impact they made, we will face challenges along with our friendly neighborhood heroes and help them save the world with STEM! Space is limited and registration is required for this free camp which is made possible through support from the White Plains Library Foundation and ConEd.

“NASA: One Giant Leap” Camp – August 3-6, 1-2:30 p.m. Youth in grades 4-6 will be introduced to everything NASA from the early days of space exploration through building and living on the International Space Station. Travel back in time to explore the history of the American space program from its inception and discover astronaut missions of yesterday and the future of space exploration tomorrow. Space is limited and registration is required for this free camp which is made possible through support from the White Plains Library Foundation and ConEd.

Book Clubs and Discussions, and Author Visits! – We’re offering several book discussion groups this summer. Follow the link for more information and to find out how to get ebooks, and possibly physical copies of the books.

Dewey the Dragon Puppet Storytime Show – All week, July 26-31. Families will be able to watch a fantastic puppet performance featuring your favorite fairy tales, as many times as they want, all week long. More details to come.

Puppet Crafting – Wednesday, August 4, 11:00 a.m. Children are invited to learn how to construct your own puppets at home with puppeteer Nicola Rose! Then join Nicola on Friday, August 7 at 11:00 a.m. for Puppet Storytime.

Storytime and Storytelling

  • Morning Virtual Storytime – Stories and songs for younger children on Tuesdays at 11:00 a.m. Ends July 27th.
  • Storytelling with Ms. Tata – Folktales and stories for grades K-2 and families. Ends July 27th.
  • Storybook DancingThursdays, July 16 and August 13, 10:00 a.m. Steffi Nossen School of Dance presents a fun program of dancing and reading for ages 3-5.

Virtual Tabletop Games
– Board games and fun for grades 4-12.

Which Craft? Wednesdays – Virtual crafts and activities for grades 6-12. Every other Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. starting July 15 through July 22nd.

Virtual Edge Meetup – Thursdays, July 16-30. 2:00 p.m. Teens are invited to meetup with each other and take part in fun activities in the Virtual Edge within Roblox!

Virtual Chess Club – Thursdays, August 13-27, 2:00 p.m. Kids and teens can take part in playing virtual chess!
