The Castle: A Space for Tweens in Grades 4-6

Starting on May 16th, The Castle in the Trove will open as a new, refreshed space for students in grades 4-6.

This will be a space just for youth in Grades 4-6 to hang out, talk to friends, do homework, and work on school projects together. In addition, the Castle will have a variety of activities available: tabletop games, puzzles, LEGOS, arts & craft projects, and STEAM activities, and more! Librarians will also be available right outside to help with their homework and will sometimes run programs in the Castle to engage their interests.  **Note: for Homework Help, also be sure to check out the services offered for free via Tutor.com!

The Castle in the Trove
Open to Grades 4-6
Monday-Thursday:  4:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Fridays: 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Saturdays and Sundays:  1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

There will be a rotation of activities so that there is something for everyone! If you love to color, you will be able to choose from a variety of coloring sheets and use markers, pens, or crayons to color in a tree, or simply draw your favorite cartoon or anime character. If you are interested in board games, you can try your hands at UNO or other games you know and love.

There will be many different art projects that can engage the imagination. One such project is a collage. A collage allows you to use images and symbols that are pertinent to you. You can look through our old magazines, cut pictures of food, your favorite animals, or positive sayings to create a fun vision board or collage. You can experiment with LEGOs to create a STEAM project such as a constellation or use origami to create an origami Yoda.

You can also use the seasons to inspire your creative projects. Since summer is almost here, try decorating a shell using googly eyes and glitter. You can even look at one of our library books to identify your shell after you have decorated it. We also have pipe cleaners, which can be used to create a bubble wand since all you need are pipe cleaners and beads. Autumn can be a perfect time to make a spooky bookmark using craft eyes or a spectacular slime creature.

We ask that you come prepared to have fun using our supplies and your own imagination! For more information about The Trove, click here.
