Slow Reading Book Discussion

The Slow Reading Discussion Group will start off the 2024-25 year with a close study of ten stories by the great Canadian master of the form and Nobel Laureate, Alice Munro, who died this past May. Leading the group is Ellen Lambert, who has a Ph.D. from Yale and taught high school English at The Dalton School for over 25 years. For the session on September 9th, please read: “Runaway” — the title story in Munro's collection Runaway (2004); may also be read online in The New Yorker (8/3/2003), where it was originally published. “Soon” — in Runaway and The New Yorker (6/6/2004). This series funded by the White Plains Library Foundation.

I was interested in reading Alice Munroe’s short stories but didn’t know what you were studying in November-December 2024 or in early 2025 so I could review the material that you would be discussing. Are you able to take on additional members? I live in Scarsdale, NY and my daughter attends the Fusion Academy and coincidentally the PGT (Play Group Theatre) in the same building in White Plains, so I am familiar with the area. I just underwent a second spinal fusion surgery and am eager to engage with other adults who have similar interests so I can pursue interactions outside of my work as an appeals and issues attorney.

Hi Melanie, thank you for your comment. From Dec. – June, the group will be reading “Tell me a Riddle;” When the Emperor Was Divine; Go, Went, Gone; and Tracks. Please do join in when you’re available!
