Westchester Children’s Museum

The White Plains Public Library is pleased to announce the addition of the Westchester Children’s Museum to the Museum Pass Program. The Library pass provides free admission for four people (at least 1 adult).  The Museum is open every day from 930am-530pm. Future is Female Book Discussion

On Monday October 7th at 2pm, Ellen O’Connell, White Plains resident and retired teacher, will moderate a discussion of the novel The Long Bright River, by Liz Moore, an NPR Book of the Year and Good Morning America Book Club pick (2023). Jazz at Noon: Vanessa Racci Jazzy Italian

Friday September 13th, 12PM. This program celebrates Italian Americans who made their mark on jazz. Descended from Southern Italian immigrants, Vanessa Racci grew up living with her Barese grandfather who played Jazz and Italian classics throughout the house. Racci is known for creating her own unique sound, blending jazz and Italian influences. Her most recent album, Jazzy Italian (2022, Zoho Jazz label), was produced and arranged by GRAMMY Award-winner Steven Feifke, and was named among the Top 10 Traditional Jazz Albums of 2022 on the RMR jazz chart. The Slow Reading Discussion Group will start off the 2024-25 year with a close study of ten stories by the great Canadian master of the form and Nobel Laureate, Alice Munro, who died this past May. Greater Mental Health of New York

Mental health is a vital component of overall well-being, influencing how individuals think, feel, and act in their daily lives. Greenburgh Nature Center Pass Now Available

The White Plains Public Library is pleased to announce the addition of Greenburgh Nature Center in Scarsdale, NY to the Museum Pass Program. The Library pass provides free admission for two adults of the same household and all children under 18 to the Manor House, which is home to the Live Animal Museum, and its grounds. Stone Barns Center Now Included in our Museum Pass Program

The Library is excited to announce the Stone Barns Center for Food & Agriculture is now available as part of our Museum Pass Program. We have 2 passes to the Center: one is specifically for Saturday visits and one is specifically for Sunday visits. The passes allow entry for up to 2 adults and 4 youth OR 1 vehicle.  You should reserve the pass for the specific day you want to visit. Note: The Center is also open Wednesday through Friday and admission is free so there is no need for a pass. Cooper Hewitt Passes Now Available to Borrow

The Library is excited to announce the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum is now available as part of our Museum Pass Program.  We have two passes to the Museum and each pass admits two adults and any children under 18. The Museum is located at 2 East 91st Street, New York, New York. Their hours are Sunday-Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-9 p.m. The Cooper Hewitt closed its doors in 2011 and underwent a major renovation and name change. Did you know that the Library offers free Museum Passes to the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Bruce Museum, Children’s Museum of Manhattan, The Frick Collection, Intrepid Sea Air & Space Museum, Katonah Museum of Art, and Stepping Stones Museum For Children?  These passes are available to all White Plains Library cardholders over the age of 18 who are in good standing.  One pass may be borrowed at a time per family.  You get the pass for three days and 2 nights and passes cannot be renewed. Tappan Zee Bridge Impact Study

The Library recently received a copy of the Tappan Zee Hudson River Crossing Project Final Environmental Impact Statement and Section 4(f) Evaluation. These four massive binders examine the potential environmental effects of proposed alternatives for the Crossing Project, and where adverse impacts are identified, it discusses measures to reduce them. This report supports the Replacement Bridge Alternative as the preferred alternative. Hint: it means eBooks from the Library without the wait! Freading is a new online service that allows White Plains Library cardholders to download eBooks to their favorite devices. (Except for the older Kindles. It does work with the Kindle Fire.)
