Free Citizenship Classes

The New-York Historical Society offers free online citizenship classes for green card holders preparing for the naturalization interview. The online citizenship course prepares permanent residents for the civics test portion of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) naturalization interview. The interactive online naturalization preparation course covers all 100 questions from the USCIS Civics Test. Participants learn about American history and government using objects, paintings, and documents from the New-York Historical collections through videoconferencing. U.S. Citizenship Application Process

Understanding the Process of Becoming a U.S. Citizen This program has been rescheduled to Tuesday, May 04th at 2:00 p.m. Registration is required; click here to register. Prepare for the Citizenship Interview

Saturday, March 12 at 12:00 p.m. Immigration officer Shyconia Burden-Noten of the US Citizenship and Immigration Services will demonstrate a US Citizenship mock interview to help applicants prepare for their own interview. All are invited to come and ask Ms. Burden questions related to the naturalization process, green cards, employment authorization, and the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). Attorneys and a paralegal will be available to provide consultations to individuals and answer questions. The Westchester Hispanic Coalition will be here to help translate this program.

Classes will cover information needed to pass the test, basic test-taking skills and preparation for the English language section of the test. The class is free but space is limited and registration is required. Register on Tuesday, July 1, 10am – 1pm, 6pm – 9pm or on Thursday, July 3 from 10am – 1pm. Students must be at least 18 years old. Immigration Workshop

The Pace Community Law Practice will hold a two-hour presentation about immigration law on Saturday, March 9, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Workshop topics include family-based and humanitarian-based immigration remedies, such as: the new 601A waiver; Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA); asylum; and marriage filings. The session will provide a general overview of the New York State and federal public benefits for which non-citizens are eligible.
