The Hub Groundbreaking was a Success

We hosted a “virtual” groundbreaking on Wednesday, September 7 for our upcoming adult library, The Hub. The first floor renovations will include:  enhanced and expanded technology; comfortable seating to relax and read; more space for informal and formal learning; improved meeting and classroom space; a new community room for programs and events; and a wonderful café in the heart of White Plains. “Through the creation of the The Trove children's library, The Edge teen space and now The Hub, as well as their innovative programming and offerings, the White Plains Public Library has proven that libraries are as relevant and important today

Foundation’s 20th Anniversary Gala to Support The Hub

Join us as we celebrate 20 years of supporting our great community library! Proceeds will help support The Hub, our new adult library, as first floor renovations resume this winter. Our honoree is Phil Klay, a White Plains native and author of Redeployment, the 2014 National Book Award winner for fiction, a short-story collection based on Phil’s experiences as a Marine in Iraq. What’s the buzz? Library Foundation hosts Adult and Teen Spelling Bee fundraiser to benefit The Trove!

Join us Friday, February 27, 7 p.m. at the HIGHLANDS MIDDLE SCHOOL AUDITORIUM for our first-ever Adult & Teen Spelling Bee. Have some fun watching teams of adults from community organizations and book groups and teens from White Plains High School test their spelling skills! Doors open at 7 p.m., Bee starts at 7:30 p.m. Snow date Friday March 6. Admission $5 payable at door. Kids under 6 free. Raffle drawing and refreshments available for purchase. Mini Golf in the Library: "Tee Off for Education"

Friends of the Library Celebrate 65th Anniversary

The Friends of the White Plains Public Library are unsung library heroes. Founded in 1947, this group of volunteers has raised funds for programming, the Museum Gallery, equipment and furnishings. (Including our beautiful Steinway B piano in the auditorium. Many musicians have commented on how nice it is that we have such a good piano to play!) They deliver books to home-bound Library patrons around White Plains. They also provide volunteer manpower for various events, such as gallery openings.
