Teen Volunteering: Summer 2022

This summer we’re offering a few new opportunities for teens to earn community service credit. We’ll continue to take submissions of original book reviews for books in our YA collection. We’re also partnering with Meals on Wheels to collect a variety of cheerful handmade items to be distributed along with meals.

This summer we’re looking for teen volunteers to make greeting cards, placemats, paper flowers, or bookmarks for Meals on Wheels. We’ll provide kits with paper and craft materials on a first-come, first-served basis; you’ll provide scissors, glue, creativity, and any other art supplies you want to use. You are welcome to work on your kit in the Edge–where you can use our scissors, glue, and art supplies–if you would like.

Each volunteer may take up to two kits at a time; upon returning your kits, you may take two more. Kits will be available for pickup in the Edge during Edge hours, starting Monday, June 27.

If you were working on a project for the Knitting for a Cause or Tactile Picture Book projects that we offered earlier in the year, please contact YA Librarian Erik at ecarlson@whiteplainslibrary.org. He can facilitate the return of your finished item and provide documentation of community service credit. In your email, please specify what kind of documentation your volunteer organization requires (letter, signed form, email, etc.)
