Safer and Seen: Supporting Your LGBTQ+ Loved Ones with Presenter Caleb Seguin

Perhaps you have a LBGTQ+ family member or friend. Perhaps you wish to understand more about LGBTQ+ issues. Perhaps you are concerned about current events. Please join the Library for an important webinar: Supporting LGBTQ+ Loved Ones. This webinar is geared towards adults, caregivers and adults who work with teens, and older teens.
As awareness and acceptance around gender and sexuality grows, more youth and adults are questioning, disclosing, and embracing their LGBTQ+ identities. For parents, families, and friends, this can be both joyous and stressful. Whether struggling or supportive, this presentation provides an opportunity for adult loved ones to learn more about LGBTQ+ identities and offers a space to ask tough questions.
Caleb Seguin has been working with youth and families for over a decade. He is a key part of the leadership team at Camp Unirondack, a summer camp for youth with a focus on social justice, LGBTQ+ inclusivity, intentional community and youth empowerment. Caleb is also the owner and operator of Playful Pianos music studio for kids, and Project Lead at Northern Youth Abroad, helping Indigenous youth in Canada’s northern territories develop volunteer projects to serve their communities.
As a Queer Indigenous person, Caleb’s work is always informed by the Anishinaabe teachings that he grew up with, and the LGBTQ+ community that he is a part of. He draws inspiration from the core principles of Anishinaabe child-rearing in order to develop educational tools that examine youth work through a unique cultural lens. He has presented at schools, summer camps, and conferences on topics related to LGBTQ+ justice (especially for youth), gender inclusivity, anti-colonialism, youth-centered behavior intervention, and dismantling adult supremacy. Throughout his youth work, Caleb maintains a commitment to fostering values of autonomy, community responsibility, levity, and honest, affirming personal growth. Caleb was born and raised in Canada, and currently lives near Albany, NY with his dog Pingo, and has a deep passion for jigsaw puzzles and peach cobbler.
