Metropolis Sunrise Sewing Project

Amanda Browder Metropolis Sunrise Sewing Project Monday, August 22nd, 11:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. Auditorium Are you ready to sew? Artist Amanda Browder Browder is creating a 10,000-square-foot fabric sculpture that will be installed on ArtsWestchester's building in downtown White Plains this Fall in conjunction with Serious Fun, a major public arts festival. This project will be created through community sewing days like the one scheduled at the White Plains Public Library. Since 2020, ArtsWestchester has hosted about 30 sewing days throughout the county with over 450 volunteers. No registration necessary. Come for an hour or the whole day. All are welcome.

We are grateful to start our collaboration with White Plains Jazz Fest and ArtsWestchester on a good note–with an oral history by Kenny Lee, whose life and music are important parts of White Plains history. Lee is known to different people for different things. Some know him as a trumpet player and band leader of the Kenny Lee All Stars. Others know him as a detective with the White Plains Police Department. Lee was born in White Plains and, taking after his father, started playing trumpet at an early age.
