Grab&Go Kits

The Library will now feature a variety of Grab&Go Kits that families can take home to enjoy. Librarians in the Trove and Edge are compiling several types of kits that will provide families with wonderful opportunities to unplug and engage in activities that stir the imagination and provide at-home learning and fun. Kits will be available outside our main entrance while supplies last.

In October and November we will begin regularly offering the following kits for pick up on a varied schedule. The first day a kit will be available to pick up will be marked in our online calendar. Once kits are made available on their select date they will only be available until supplies last.

  • Pre-K A-to-Z Kits – first kit available November 2
  • Grades K-3 Kits – first kit available November 16
  • Grades 4-8 STEAM Kits  – first kit available November 16
  • Grades 7-12 STEAM Kits  – first kit November 2
  • Grades 7-12 Craft Kits – first kit available October 19

These educational kits will contain activities, supplies (those that might not be readily available at home), and instructions. A Pre-K A-to-Z Kit, for example, will contain worksheets, coloring pages, recommended reads, songs, and an activity or craft, such as construction paper for creating a caterpillar to practice the letter C. The Craft Kits and STEAM Kits for Grades 7-12 will be connected to project videos that can be found online on the Library’s Facebook page and the Edge Instagram account.

We will also be featuring special themed Pre-K Kits throughout the year, such as a Thanksgiving Kit which will be available starting November 23. In December, a Grades 4-8 Kit will include binary coding projects in conjunction with Hour of Code and related programs.

The first kits to be available include:
A Grades K-3 Kit is currently available in conjunction with our StoryWalk for the book Steamboat School by Deborah Hopkinson, when you visit the Library. Our kits for this StoryWalk include suggested STEAM activity sheets along with origami paper and printed instructions on how to create a boat. The kits will be available while supplies last and the StoryWalk is up for viewing through October 30.

A Grades 7-12 Craft Kit, available October 19, to make Jack-O-Lantern Garlands. The kit will include construction paper pumpkin cutouts and string for the garland; you’ll need to provide a pen (or markers) and some tape. A tutorial video for the project will also be available on the Edge Instagram page and the Library Facebook page on October 19.

In connection with the Halloween STEAM program on October 27, twenty Grades 4-8 Halloween STEAM kits are available in the vestibule to registered participants. Register for the program here. During the program, participants will use the kit contents to create a walking zombie and learn about static electricity. The kit will include tissue paper, a cut out zombie, a marker, and a balloon. You will need a piece of some sort of cloth, or perhaps even some hair.

We are excited about connecting with our community through our Grab&Go Kits and we hope that you and your families enjoy them!
