Chamber Music of William Eckfeld

Please join us Sunday, February 21, at 2 p.m. for a free concert featuring the chamber music of William Eckfeld, composer and performer. The program includes works for strings, piano, clarinet, euphonium and tubas. Mr. Eckfeld, a White Plains resident, was the orchestra director at White Plains High School from 1987-2013. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music, he was a member of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra before beginning his career in music education. Foundation’s 20th Anniversary Gala to Support The Hub

Join us as we celebrate 20 years of supporting our great community library! Proceeds will help support The Hub, our new adult library, as first floor renovations resume this winter. Our honoree is Phil Klay, a White Plains native and author of Redeployment, the 2014 National Book Award winner for fiction, a short-story collection based on Phil’s experiences as a Marine in Iraq. Chess Challenge with Joshua Colas

Saturday, Oct. 24, 2-4 p.m.–Calling all chess players, 3rd Grade through High School! White Plains HS Senior, and international chess champion, Joshua Colas will play two rounds of “simul” chess, where he plays up to 16 players at the same time! The first round starts at 2 p.m. and the second is at 2:45. Preregistration is not required; tickets for both sessions will be given out starting at 1:30. Join Us at National Night Out!

Stop by the Library's table at White Plains Department of Public Safety's National Night Out event onTuesday, August 4, from 6 p.m. to dark. We'll be promoting Library programs for everyone in the family, and distributing teen safe driving information and giveaways made possible through our generous grant from The Allstate Foundation.  A fun annual event featuring many community groups and free entertainment, National Night Out will take place on South Lexington Ave. outside of the Public Safety building.  Here's a picture from last year's event.

Calling all teen drivers!

Are you a new driver? Getting your license soon? Attend our Allstate Readiness Teen Safe Driving Program, Monday, April 6, 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the Library auditorium. Learn safe driving tips from certified driving instructor Jim Fatigate. Parents welcome. Students will earn one hour of community service credit for attending. Refreshments provided. New Westchester Symphony performs Seasonal Favorites Sunday, Dec. 14, 3 p.m.

Library "breaks ground" for The Edge, our new teen space!

Over 80 community members joined Mayor Thomas Roach at the Library’s official groundbreaking ceremony on June 24 to kick off construction of The Edge, our new 3,000 sq. ft. space for teens.  The Edge will be built this summer and fall as part of Phase I of the Library’s first floor renovations, a three-year capital project of the City of White Plains with major support from the White Plains Library Foundation. At the groundbreaking, a group of ceremonial “book movers” led by Mayor Roach pushed book carts loaded with Young Adult books off the floor, clearing the space to begin renovations. Chess with White Plains Chess Master Joshua Colas

Test your chess skills against a Master, on Saturday, April 27, 2-4 p.m., for students in grades 3-8. White Plains High School freshman Joshua Colas is the youngest African-American chess master in history. He will talk about how he got started playing chess and about his experiences in international competitions. Then he'll play simultaneous games against up to 15 opponents! Mini Golf in the Library: "Tee Off for Education"
