Kids Get to "Act It Out" in The Trove

Hi, Kids! Do you see yourself on the big stage – or the big screen – someday?  Get started here in The Trove in our “Act It Out” program.  This 3-session drama workshop for third through sixth graders will include improvisation, theater games, and script reading.  We'll perform a short reader's theater selection for family and friends at the end of our last session. Fairy Houses – an Exhibit and a Play Workshop

An exhibit showcasing the lovely fairy houses and fairy realia of Joan Monk and Bev McAllister from the Westchester Children’s Museum: Museum Without Walls can be currently seen at the Library’s second-floor lobby and in the Trove. The display promotes the upcoming crafts program, Fairy Houses – a Play Workshop, that will be presented at the Library by staff from the Westchester Children’s Museum on Sunday, March 24th at 2 pm. Historic Firefighting Equipment on Display in The Trove

You don’t want to miss the collection of historic firefighting equipment on display in The Trove this month. Several items, on loan from the City of White Plains Local History Collection, have been incorporated into The Trove’s Black History StoryWalk®. Among the old firefighting hats on display is one worn by past White Plains Fire Chief Griffen. There’s also a wooden debris shovel which was used by Chief Griffen to clean up and scoop out after fires. If you look at the back of the shovel, you can even see the chief’s initials, H. A. Black History StoryWalk® Opens Sunday, February 17

This month, we remember important people in Black History. Some are widely known while others are less known. Act It Out! – Drama Workshop for Kids

Act It Out! starts Tuesday, January 15 at 4:30 p.m. There is still time to register! This three-session drama workshop includes theater games and script reading for children in grades 3-6. Halloween Stories – Intergenerational Halloween Storytelling

This Saturday, October 27 at 3:30 p.m., renowned storyteller Carol Birch will present an intergenerational Halloween storytelling performance for children in second grade and up, and adults. Lego Donation Day – Saturday, December 8, 2012

Wanted!! Your used Legos! Are they gathering dust, no longer being played with? Why not donate them to The Trove’s Lego Club? We are especially in need of Lego mini-figures. Please bring them to The Trove on Saturday, December 8, anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The Trove’s Lego Club began in January of this year and since then there have been 184 attendees at monthly sessions. Day of the Dead Craft Series: Make Your Own Altar

Day of the Dead or Día de los Muertos is a holiday based on Ancient Aztec, Mayan and Catholic traditions, and is primarily celebrated in Mexico and Central America on the 1st and 2nd of November. Michael Graham's Spring Valley Puppet Theater Returns to White Plains

Favorite puppet show Spring Valley Puppet Theater will be here on Monday, August 27 with a performance at 2 p.m. for children going into kindergarten and older. Elementary school aged children will appreciate this show featuring two stories, The Three Wishes & The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing. The White Plains Library Foundation has funded this end of the summer celebration for all our readers. What would you do if a magical elf gave you three wishes? An interesting thought! A Back to School Tip for Parents

For kindergarten and elementary school students, a library card should be part of the school supply list. The White Plains Public Library and The Trove give children library cards from birth because the librarians believe that reading aloud to a child is the best preparation for reading.
