Every Hero Has a Story!

The Trove summer reading game begins Monday, June 29 and runs through August 14. Be a hero and READ! Each day you come in to report on books you have read, you will receive a prize. Storywalk in the Park

The City of White Plains Recreation and Parks Department, in partnership with the White Plains Public Library, is pleased to introduce StoryWalk at Bryant-Mamaroneck Park. The StoryWalk combines a children's story with a popular walking route. Children's books are selected, the pages separated, laminated, and placed along a walking path at regular intervals so readers can follow the story as they walk the route. The StoryWalk is a great opportunity for parents, teachers, and caregivers to provide a fun and healthy activity for young children. Trove Lego® Club Spring Events

The Trove Lego® Club has been busy this Spring! In April, Trove Lego® Club members displayed sculptures at the Family Fun event, April 18th and 19th at Lyndhurst Mansion in Tarrytown, NY. As exhibitors, they received free tickets for themselves and their families. This was a wonderful opportunity to publicly display their work and participate in some exciting Lego® activities in a grand and historic setting. Family Fun Day – Trumble In The Trove!

On Sunday March 22, the White Plains Library Foundation will sponsor a family fun day from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. Vermont Puppetree will perform Swimmy at 2:00 pm, and comic juggler Will Shaw will entertain at 4:00 p.m. In between, enjoy gymnastics, face painting balloons, crafts, a book sale and bake sale. What’s the buzz? Library Foundation hosts Adult and Teen Spelling Bee fundraiser to benefit The Trove!

Join us Friday, February 27, 7 p.m. at the HIGHLANDS MIDDLE SCHOOL AUDITORIUM for our first-ever Adult & Teen Spelling Bee. Have some fun watching teams of adults from community organizations and book groups and teens from White Plains High School test their spelling skills! Music Conservatory of Westchester Family Concerts

Join the White Plains Public Library and the Music Conservatory of Westchester for two interactive musical adventures exploring wind, brass, and string instruments as well as the voice. The New NY Bridge & I Lift NY Super Crane: All In K’NEX!

Out over the Hudson River, the New NY Bridge (that will replace the Tappan Zee Bridge) is under construction and due to be completed in 2018. In excited anticipation, children in The Trove have built a giant model of the new bridge – all in K’NEX! But, that’s not all. Alice – 3D computer programming

Children at the White Plains Public Library can learn the basics of computer programing with Alice 2.3, a computer application developed by Carnegie Mellon. By designing 3D animations and video games of their very own, 4th, 5th and 6th graders will be executing essential computer commands – thanks to the work of the Alice Team at Carnegie Mellon. Multi-Sensory Storytime on Saturday, November 16 at 10:30 a.m.

Join staff from the Kiyoko Brown Lekotek Center for a storytime designed for all abilities and attention spans. It is recommended for children on the autism spectrum as well as other children with disabilities. Children from 3 to 6 years old with a caregiver are welcome to register for this program beginning on November 2 – please register in person in The Trove. The program will be repeated on December 21.

Celebrate Diwali with Us!

Learn about Indian culture in this children's program! Join us to celebrate Diwali with our Indian community. Also known as “Festival of Lights”, Diwali is a Hindu festival that celebrates the triumph of good versus evil. The Library will hold a celebration on Sunday, October 27 at 2:00 p.m. Enjoy Indian dancing, crafts, and food generously donated by Royal Palace Restaurant. Kindergarten Here I Come!

School starts in White Plains on Monday, September 9. For children entering Kindergarten, it is an important time. Watch a film together with your child to help them get ready. Upbeat and authentic, this 18 minute, special video generates excitement about starting Kindergarten. Chess with White Plains Chess Master Joshua Colas

Test your chess skills against a Master, on Saturday, April 27, 2-4 p.m., for students in grades 3-8. White Plains High School freshman Joshua Colas is the youngest African-American chess master in history. He will talk about how he got started playing chess and about his experiences in international competitions. Then he'll play simultaneous games against up to 15 opponents! Head Start Art Fair in The Trove — A Community Celebration

Come to the Head Start Art Fair, a wonderful exhibit in The Trove! Over the next four weeks, art created by children and parents who participate in the White Plains Early Childhood Programs of Family Services of Westchester will be on display along The Trove's Tree Trail.
