Poetry Slam @ Grace Church on 10/5

While the Library undergoes renovations, our 1st Wednesday Poetry Slam and Open Mic is moving to Grace Church for October and November! Just like our slams at the Library, please register between 6:30 and 7:00 PM for the Open Mic or the Slam. Slam poets should bring one original poem of up to 3 minutes. Registration closes promptly at 7, and the program starts shortly thereafter. October's guest poet is Taylor Steele. Steele is a Bronx-born, Brooklyn-based writer and performer. Allstate Safe Driving Open House for New Drivers

Join us on Saturday, April 23 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM for our next open house for new drivers. There will be information in English and Espanol for new drivers as well as performances by the White Plains High School Song Writers Club. Other clubs from the high school will be here with information on some of the projects they have been doing this school year. 17th Annual Clarice Wilson Memorial Concert

Join us for the 17th annual Clarice Wilson Memorial Concert, presented by White Plains Library Foundation. On Sunday, April 17 at 2:00 p.m., violinist Alejandro Mendoza and pianist Adam Kent present an afternoon of sonatas for violin and piano by several of Clarice Wilson's most beloved composers, including Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johannes Brahms, and Cesar Franck. We welcome your donations to the Clarice Wilson Memorial Fund of the White Plains Library Foundation, in memory of Clarice Wilson, Music Specialist at the Library from 1974-1999. Mrs. Wilson supported gifted, young musicians at the start of their performance careers.

Family Fun Day Readers’ Fair this Sunday!

On Sunday, April 10, the Trove will host a Readers' Fair for the whole family. Outside on the Library Plaza from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. will be Hudson Valley Llamas and a fire engine from the White Plains Fire Department. There will also be balloon animals, bubbles, a chalk drawing contest, a scavenger hunt, and outdoor games. Inside in the Trove will be facepainting, storytimes and crafts. At 4:00 p.m., Robert the Guitar Guy will perform after a special storytelling session. Funded by the White Plains Library Foundation.

Chamber Music of William Eckfeld

Foundation’s 20th Anniversary Gala to Support The Hub

Proceeds will help support The Hub, our new adult library, as first floor renovations resume this winter. Our honoree is Phil Klay, a White Plains native and author of Redeployment, the 2014 National Book Award winner for fiction, a short-story collection based on Phil’s experiences as a Marine in Iraq. Chess Challenge with Joshua Colas

Saturday, Oct. 24, 2-4 p.m.–Calling all chess players, 3rd Grade through High School! White Plains HS Senior, and international chess champion, Joshua Colas will play two rounds of “simul” chess, where he plays up to 16 players at the same time! The first round starts at 2 p.m. and the second is at 2:45. Preregistration is not required; tickets for both sessions will be given out starting at 1:30. Join Us at National Night Out!

Stop by the Library's table at White Plains Department of Public Safety's National Night Out event onTuesday, August 4, from 6 p.m. to dark. We'll be promoting Library programs for everyone in the family, and distributing teen safe driving information and giveaways made possible through our generous grant from The Allstate Foundation.  A fun annual event featuring many community groups and free entertainment, National Night Out will take place on South Lexington Ave. outside of the Public Safety building.  Here's a picture from last year's event.

Stone Barns Center Now Included in our Museum Pass Program

The Library is excited to announce the Stone Barns Center for Food & Agriculture is now available as part of our Museum Pass Program. We have 2 passes to the Center: one is specifically for Saturday visits and one is specifically for Sunday visits. The passes allow entry for up to 2 adults and 4 youth OR 1 vehicle.  You should reserve the pass for the specific day you want to visit. Note: The Center is also open Wednesday through Friday and admission is free so there is no need for a pass. Teens in grades 7-12 are invited to learn how to apply makeup that is appropriate for job interviews and internships. Jill K. of JKFlashy will lead a discussion of makeup techniques for a professional look. During the last hour of the workshop, teens will have the opportunity to practice their new skills. Calling all teen drivers!

Are you a new driver? Getting your license soon? Attend our Allstate Readiness Teen Safe Driving Program, Monday, April 6, 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the Library auditorium. Learn safe driving tips from certified driving instructor Jim Fatigate. Parents welcome. Students will earn one hour of community service credit for attending. Refreshments provided.
