Library Achieves Green Certification

The Library is pleased to announce it has achieved Green Business Certification through the Green Business Partnership (GBP), a public-private partnership managed in part by Westchester County. GBP offers support to businesses and organizations who are interested in reducing their carbon footprint and making their operations more sustainable. The Library’s Green Team–led by Librarian Kathlyn Carroll–worked to evaluate the Library's current performance in a variety of areas, including water and energy usage, purchasing decisions, and waste management. An Exhibition of Artist books by Marc Shanker

The Library will host an exhibition of Artist Books by self-taught artist Marc Shanker. The show runs from Monday, December 6th, 2021 through Friday, February 4th, 2022. “My books are words extended by images, and images extended by words. The physicality of books focuses attention and adds to their significance. Whether large or small, books exert a power unlike any other object,” states Shanker. The exhibition includes over thirty prints and eleven Artist Books. Regeneration Art Exhibit

This new exhibit will be on display in the Library's newly renovated Museum Gallery on the second floor starting Tuesday, June 1st, through Friday, September 3rd. The gallery is accessible during normal Library hours. “Regeneration” looks at a future focused on climate justice. I hope you got plenty of use out of AcornTV, because effective May 14 we will no longer offer it. The decision wasn't ours; apparently Acorn decided they no longer wanted to be in the library market. This is one of the downsides of the digital world. Unlike a print book, or a DVD, libraries don't own the eBooks and streaming content they offer. Typically, we can only lease them. Starting Wednesday, April 14th at 9:00 a.m., the Westchester Library System will begin migrating library patrons from Lynda.com to LinkedIn Learning. The migration is expected to complete in a few days. There will be no access during this process. After the migration is complete, you will be able to login using your library card number and PIN without needing to create a new profile. Blood Pressure Monitor Loaner Program

Blood pressure management is more important than ever during the pandemic. The Library will begin loaning blood pressure monitors on March 15th. The monitor comes with a cuff, instructions, and a log the patron may keep for recording daily readings. The monitors can be placed on hold by any Westchester County library card holder in good standing and may be kept for 14 days.
